Using the travel websites for research is a good idea, however I would go direct to the airline and book. You will find the same pricing with the airlines. Should you have an issue you will have the airlines backing you up. If something goes wrong with a travel website, will you get the same service and priority.
I was at a car rental office when someone arrived at the wrong airport to pick up his car rental. When the rental agent looked up his booking and found it was booked through Travelocity, he was unable to help him. He was informed if he booked it direct with car rental company they could have helped him out. The gentleman had to pay for transportation to the correct Chicago airport at this own expense.
In my research I have found same pricing with car rentals, air fares and hotels going direct to the company. I would recommend this to my clients for their own protection. Usually going direct they will either match or have a promotion not available. Don't be fooled that you get a better deal. Do your own comparison.
