On Jan. 23, the first block out of 72 of Celebrity Cruises’ new 122,000-ton Celebrity Eclipse was put in place in at Meyer Werft in Papenburg, Germany. Harri Kulovaara, executive vice president-maritime and newbuilding for parent company Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd., was joined by Christer Schoug, vice president newbuilding, and Project Director Jarmo Laakso to insert the traditional lucky coins. The Celebrity Eclipse is the third ship in a series of five. The delivery of the ship is scheduled for 2010. The Celebrity Eclipse will accommodate more than 2,852 passengers in 1,426 cabins. This class of ships will contain numerous energy-saving systems, and is built in line with the latest stability regulations.
