Peterhead
The breathtaking River Dee runs through Aberdeen, crossed by a variety of delightful bridges. The city's breathtaking architecture and cosmopolitan nature is on display along Union Street, a mile-long walkway with hundreds of shops, restaurants and cafes. The third largest city in Scotland, Aberdeen is nicknamed the "Granite City," as it was built largely of granite. There is no dull gray to be seen here, however.
Attractions
Linger in the city center to explore the Aberdeen Art Gallery with its fine collection on display inside a Victorian building. The Marischal Museum displays the results of countless expeditions by locals over the past two centuries. Nearby, visit eight distilleries on the world’s only Malt Whiskey Trail - or tour Castle Fraser, owned by The National Trust for Scotland. Head to the coast where vast empty beaches and dramatic cliffs await their close-up.
Currency
The pound sterling (GBP) is valid in both England and Scotland, but Scottish banks also issue their own banknotes.
